Junior Achievement - Junior Achievement is back! Junior Achievement (JA) is a program that empowers young people to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. Students learn how to manage money, how to become career and work ready, and are empowered to explore their potential to become successful entrepreneurs. The program will run on your child's lunch recess time for six weeks on Tuesdays (1st, 3rd & 4th grades) and on Thursdays (2nd & 5th grades) from February 6th through March 15th. Sign up sheets will be coming home soon!

Junior Achievement needs parent volunteers! The program (and your volunteer commitment!) will run for 6 weeks during lunch recess times Tuesdays (1st, 3rd & 4th grades) and on Thursdays (2nd & 5th grades) from February 6th through March 15th. All materials and curriculum are provided. You can even volunteer for more than one grade.

Please contact Becca Harpster at if you are interested in volunteering or have questions about the program.

Jefferson Winter Carnival - The 2018 Jefferson Winter Carnival is almost here! This spectacular event is on Saturday, February 24th from 12-4PM. This event is Jefferson’s biggest fundraiser! The carnival generates funds for the PTA to support all of the great programming, family events and school improvements at Jefferson. The 2017 Carnival was a huge success and we were thrilled with the support of our families & community. Together we raised over $25,000 for Jefferson Elementary! We are all so fortunate to be a part of such an incredible school. Now it is that time again and we need YOUR help to make the 2018 Jefferson Winter Carnival an even greater success! This year we are raising funds for a Jefferson Environment Club (Recycling, Gardening, etc.), Classroom Libraries, a new Maker Space in the Library, as well as the funding the many programs traditionally provided by the PTA (hospitality, Junior Achievement, classroom parties and so much more)

Donation Ideas: We need some donations to make some of the most popular Carnival attractions possible! All the money we make goes directly back to ALL children at Jefferson. Here are some ideas, including Tiger Bucks and gift items for our Silent Auction:

Tiger Bucks Donations - Back for the 8th year! Last year, the PTA raised over $2,000 just Tiger Bucks alone!

  • Money: Any amount helps purchase prizes for the Tiger Bucks (checks can be made to the Jefferson PTA with “Tiger Bucks” in the memo line)
  • Gift Cards: We use gift cards from stores like Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, etc., to buy prizes needed for the game and/or $5-10 gift cards for prizes.

  • Prizes: Any sized prize, grand to very small (toys, electronics, jewelry, crafts, etc.)

  • Candy: Movie size candy boxes or full sized candy bars

  • Clean Out Your Closet: Donate any NEW toys or games your children have received from Christmas, birthdays, or anytime that they will not be using. Nothing is too small!

Donations can be dropped off in a bin at school by the front office or in a bin at 347 E. Cayuga Avenue. If you have any questions regarding Tiger Bucks please contact Michelle Barclay, or Robyn Pretzie,

5ESSENTIALS SURVEY - Please take a moment to participate in the fourth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey will allow you and your child (in grades 4 through 12) to share thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness at your child’s school. It asks students about their experiences in school and parents about their experiences with your child’s school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material. The parent survey takes about 10 minutes. To take the parent survey please visit and select the appropriate survey to begin. A link is also provided on the Elmhurst D205 website.
