Jefferson "Tiger News"

November 18, 2018

Dear Jefferson Families,

Thank you to our amazing PTA and all of the volunteers that made the Thanksgiving Feast possible. I spoke with some of our new staff and they were truly touched and amazed by this wonderful tradition.

As it is getting colder and we will start to have snow and close to zero temperatures, please make sure to send your child to school with the appropriate winter weather gear! Students will be able to play in the snow if they have snow pants and boots. We do line up outside and are at recess as long as the temperature and wind chill are above zero.

Congratulations to our PBIS October Mystery Winners! These students were wonderful models of respect, responsibility and safety at Jefferson. Congratulations to Luke Schwager, Elvie Bui, Declan Sullivan, Abby Saltiel, Owen Burns, and Patrick Reardon. Their pictures are up on PBIS bulletin board in the foyer.

The 5Essentials Survey
The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is now open for parents to share thoughts about your experiences with our school. This survey provides critical input to help develop school improvement plans. The survey takes about 10 minutes. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

To take the parent survey please visit  and select the parent survey link. You will need to enter the county (DuPage) and school name. A link is also provided on the Elmhurst D205 website. I hope you will participate.

Accessing Your Child’s Standards Based Report (SBR) Card for Trimester 1 - As you know Elmhurst Elementary School District 205 has made changes to the way we teach and report student progress. By now we should all be aware that we are using Standards Based Reporting meaning that we are teaching Illinois State Standards and measuring student progress on those standards with four categories;
4 – Exceeds the Standard
3 – Proficient with the Standard
2 – Approaching the Standard
1 – Beginning the Standard
Also new this year is the way parents can access their child’s SBR for the first trimester. Your child’s report card is currently available for viewing.  You will be able to print your child’s report card if you choose. Additionally, your child’s teacher will have a printed copy available during conferences.  If you do not have access to a computer, please contact our office and we’ll be happy to print a copy for you.

Below you will find the instructions to retrieve your student(s) report cards:

  1. Sign in to PowerSchool
  2. Under the Navigation pane select Report Cards
  3. After you select Report Cards, a list of available report cards will appear

There is also a parent feedback survey in regards to Standards Based reporting. Please use this link to access the survey. It will be open until November 30th.

Square One Art
Jefferson’s 4th Annual Square One Art fundraiser is just around the corner. Turn your child’s artwork into great keepsakes and help raise money for our school. Please look for the order form in your child’s backpack.
There are 3 easy ways to order:
2. Call 888-332-3294
3. Use the paper order form attached to your child’s catalog
Deadline for paper orders is November 19th

Incoming 6th Grade Meetings
In planning for next year, there will be a parent meeting for current 5th, 6th and 7th graders on Tuesday, November 27th at both Bryan Middle School and Sandburg Middle School .The purpose of the meeting is to provide clarity on courses offered at the middle school level next year and to explain the course selection process and timeline. Please attend the meeting at the middle school your child will be attending next year.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, the presentation will be available on our website.
5:30-6:30 p.m. for parents of current 6th and 7th graders
7:00-8:00 p.m. for parents of current 5th graders

Giving Tree
Our Giving Tree this year will be Tuesday, December 11th. The kindergarten, first and second grade assembly will be from 8:45-9:30am. The third, fourth and fifth grade assembly will be 9:45-10:30am. This is a wonderful tradition that supports families within our community. You will be receiving a flyer with information after Thanksgiving. Not only is this an opportunity for students to give, but during the assembly, students sing a variety of songs to celebrate various holidays throughout the season within different cultures. It is a beautiful celebration of the gifts we can give, as well as the gift of our students.
