Jefferson Elementary School

Welcome Back

Welcome back! I hope everyone had an amazing summer; it has gone by very fast. I was able to spend some time with my family and travel. I am looking forward to another fabulous year at Jefferson. It is so hard to believe that this is the beginning of my fourth year at Jefferson. I am so lucky to be a part of this learning community. Each year we continue to make amazing gains, become a stronger community and learn new and exciting things.

I would like to first thank the PTA and all of the amazing volunteers that helped with the installation of the playground. It looks fantastic! I am still in awe at how quickly all of the pieces fell into place from the Orange Ruler Fundraiser in the spring to the installation during the summer. There are still some pieces that need to be completed and this may not happen before the beginning of the school year. Please know that until the orange fence comes down, the playground will be off limits to ensure everyone’s safety. Thank you again to all that made this project possible, it is just another example of what a supportive school community we are.

Welcome to all of our incoming Kindergarten students as well as all of our new families! We are excited that you will be a part of our wonderful learning community and hope that you will become involved in many of the amazing opportunities at Jefferson. There will be a New Family Welcome Night on August 17th from 6:30-7:30pm. At this time, you will be able to take a tour of the school and learn about the many wonderful aspects of Jefferson.

We also have many new additions to our staff this year and some movement of teachers to different grade levels.  This is an exciting time for us as it helps us to continue to grow as teachers and learn and collaborate with different people.

  • Susan Grote is a wonderful addition to our third grade team. Susan has worked in the district for many years and comes to us from Lincoln.
  • Kelsey Muller will be our new first grade teacher. Kelsey is excited to start at Jefferson and I know she will be an amazing asset to the first grade team.
  • Welcome to Colleen Gjataj! Colleen is our new reading specialist.
  • Working with Colleen, will be our new reading assistant Sharon Gecsey. Sharon will be part time at Jefferson as well as Edison.
  • Kasey Molidor is our new part-time special education resource teacher.

  • Welcome to Amanda Spinelle! Amanda will be our one and only PE teacher this year.
  • I am happy to share that TJ Mitchell is returning to Jefferson as one of our music teachers. Welcome back TJ! He will also be teaching band to our students.
  • Tracey Lukritz will also be teaching music this year. She is from Field elementary and will be spending some of her time between the two schools this year. Welcome Tracey!
  • Our art teacher this year will be Elizabeth Serrata. Welcome to Liz! We are excited for her to share her creativeness and talent with our students!

There has also been some movement of current teachers to different teams for the upcoming school year. Mrs. Fullerton will be teaching kindergarten, Mrs. Lindsay has moved to second grade, Mrs. Georgalas will be in fourth grade this year, Mrs. Klink will be in first grade, Mr. Grosso has moved to fifth grade and Mr. Gackowski will be joining our third grade team. We are excited for these changes as they will be a great way for our staff to continue to grow and collaborate!
